the Cage of Ivory

I’m sittin’ in this cage of Ivory
A steel blue sea all around
The sharp white sickle in my hand
And with deep preying sorrow crowned

Now there she comes, the golden one
Longs to deceives me with her sight
But I will stay in my cage of ivory
In this place so blessed and bright

Oh my sweet Beloved
With your eyes of argentine
Could we be any closer
Than in this cage of mine?

Nobody here but me and my dear
And this gory battle above my head
All these furious warriors in their armour
Make my heart pound like mad

Ravenous Scyllas thirsting for blood
And Nemean Lions on steady alert
Eerie Mantikors with poisoned arrows
And a Phoenix rising from the dirt

Oh gracious Selene
Stop that slaughter
And bring some calm
In this anxious water

Show mercy with us pitiful souls
and bring those culprits eternal bane
Only you can heal those wounds
Only you can stop the pain

Sweet victory is yours
those warrior retreat
I’m out of my breath
and drenched in sweat

The darksome sea, it settles down
And all those stars - they gleam
My cage of ivory drifts along
on this gentle, steady stream

I wish that journey lasts forever
But yet there comes another foe
A mighty, raging storm approaches
Oh woeful day! Oh day of woe!

You hear the dull grumble
You feel the rain will come
You see the bolts flashing
To this fiend I will succumb

The sea flares up
my cage is shaking
My gorgeous refuge
crumbling and breaking

Now is this how it all will end?
Inside my cage - my glowing grave?
Dying in the arms of my love
There is nothing else I crave

Threatening clouds darken the sky
and my cage of ivory disappears
In the end it was just a dream
and all what’s left are burning tears
